Yesterday, I got an issue with one of our Customer’s DPM server. Once I want to open the DPM Manager, I got an error that saying “MMC cannot open the file. this may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. this may also be because you do not have sufficient rights to the file”.
The reason for the error is the DPM Manager template file is corrupted under the user’s AppData location.
To solve this issue we need to correct the corrupted MMC template file, but this would be a hard task. You can just rename, delete or move out the corrupted template file and it will automatically re-create when you open DPM console. For the steps, please check below:
1. Open the Run command window, type the path %APPDATA%\Microsoft\MMC and click OK
This step will automatically open Windows Explorer with path “C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC”.
2. On the folder, you will see the DPM Manager template file, you can just easily rename or remove it from the folder.
3. Try to re-open the DPM Manager.
